Egypt Private Sector Engagement (PSE)

The USAID/Egypt Mission requested rapid assistance from the Integra LEAP III team as they neared completion of their PSE Action Plans. The team traveled to Cairo in December 2019 to conduct one-week of in-person “visioning” sessions with Mission staff, to gather perspectives on PSE for inclusion in the Plan. The objective of the sessions was to brainstorm with technical offices, unpack staff goals and plans, determine the appetite for market-led PSE in furtherance of development priorities, and discuss PSE-related learning activities that would be valuable. Visioning sessions were held with members of eight technical teams: health, higher education, agriculture, workforce and enterprise development, tourism, economic governance and policy, basic education and women’s empowerment and policy reform. In addition to the visioning sessions, the Activity included desk research and in-person consultations with the Mission’s front office and Mission Director, program office, communications team, PSE Working Group, and select Embassy staff, such as the Economic and Foreign Commercial Services team. A secondary goal was to encourage staff to take ownership of their team’s PSE approach in 2020 and beyond, in light of the upcoming development of the Mission’s Country Development Cooperation Strategy (CDCS).
