In November 2018, the USAID shared news of a democratic breakthrough in the Maldives and the need to engage. Through the Sri Lanka Mission, Integra was asked to conduct a rapid Rule of Law assessment. Integra conducted a rapid assessment (desk research, literature reviews, and field work) on the constraints and opportunities for advancing the rule of law in the Republic of the Maldives. Integra connected Maldivian reformers with unbiased international expertise for informing deliberations on the form, content, and sequencing of a coherent justice reform agenda. The team recruited Ambassador James Michel as the Team Lead, along with attorneys from the Maldives Law Institute. Both the fieldwork final assessment report was delivered mid 2019.
